Sending High-Resolution Images to The Track Group
(Quick Links:   Don'ts  -  Do's  -  Sending Images)

The easiest method to "email" large files (for free 100 meg files) is to use a free service you can sign up for at: http://www.yousendit.com

For many of the design projects there may be a combination of client provided images, Track researched and purchased images and custom artwork created by Track.

To assist our client's in providing the proper size and resolution files needed for printed pieces, we have created this page that has some Do's and Don'ts, Image Information and also an option to Upload Images to Track.

DON'TS:

  • Do not send word documents with the images embedded.
  • Do not send PowerPoint presentations.  The images embedded in this format are low-resolution and although appropriate for multimedia and web use, will not print with a sharp quality.
  • Do not copy images from a website that are on-screen only.  These will be low-resolution files.

DO's:

  • Send 300 dpi images in a TIFF or JPEG format preferred.
  • Check the image resolution.  A -  If you have access to a photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, simply open the file and then using the toolbar, under Image - Image Size, you should 300 next to the dpi setting.  ***If the resolution is lower, but the image size is large (ie 11x17) this image may still be usable based on your design layout***
  • Check the image resolution. B - If you do not have photo editing software, then you can look at the data size of the image (see screen captures below).  As some general numbers, a 300 dpi TIFF at 4"x6" will have a size of approximately 2,219 KB (or 2 MB) and the same size JPEG will be approximately 400 KB.
  • If your image size is close to the above specs, send it along to Track and we will review the file and let you know if it can be used for your particular design.
  • Screen Captures:
You can easily see from these file sizes that they will not be high enough resolution for printing.

You can see from these file sizes that for the JPEG format (.jpg) the file size is high enough to send as well as for the TIFF format (.tif)
